2. "Networking for references" means to notice influential people in you school or clinical work experiences that lead to new jobs, faster promotions, and greater job satisfaction. It is done by asking your instructor to write a recommendation if you have a good work ethic. Ash staff of the medial team about job openings and ask them , too, for recommendations. Ask the school staff how to register for job service/placement centers.
3. "Networking for a job": Use contact that you have made and be willing to meet new people who can help you find a job. Networking is a means to job satisfaction and advancement. You can accomplish this by: Letting you family and friends with nursing contacts know that you are looking for a job. Contact your former health care employers, browsing the internet, newspapers, nursing journals, or the Yellow Pages, looking for a job.
5. Make sure you have all of your documentation with you when you go to a face to face interview, just in case you are asked for it. Practice sample questions for a typical interview. Include some illegal questions. You will be confident when the interview actually occurs. Don't fall victim to silence.
6. Sample questions:
-What type of patients will I work with?
-How big is the facility, and how many beds are in the unit?
-How long does orientation last?
-Will I be able to request off days?
-Will I be working every other weekend?
Some of the things that I would like to know:
-How many other nurses are working with me on this particular shift?
-What is the protocol if an emergency occurs?
-What is the chain of command?
-How many assistive personnel are on this unit?

Results focused individuals are quick to get information and they act on it quickly. They have the tendency to talk fast and finish others sentences and act irritated when others dont get right to the point.
Detailed-focused: these individuals are interested in every detail about a subject, no matter howlage or how small. They are perfectiionist who will rather have the job done correctly than quickly. Signs of this include: speaking slowly and deliberately to absorb all information, and often ask for additional details, carefully explaining each element of what you have done and plan to do.
Friendly-Focused: These individuals are easy going. Signs of this style include: talking about themselves or conversatiions about your personal life and discussing weekend plans, hobbies, and non-working activities. They shift to a results focused style or detailed focused style when the small talk is finished.
Party-Focused: These people like to have fun, tell jokes, and laugh before getting down to bussiness. Their style is that, once the jokes is done ,they will shift to the results or detail focused style. The best way to respond to them is to join in the fun with them, listern to them and if you disagree with someone maintain rapport and use artful vagueness which is "responding to anothers comment without implying that either of you is wrong".
#2.Networking for refrences means making contacts with influencial people such as(teachers, clinical instructors and nurses) during school and clinicals in other to have them give you a positive job reference after school.

Re LPN Staff Nurse Position.
Dear Ms Savbrosky,
I will graduate from Kennedy-King College LPN programe in August 2009.I was highly impressed by the quality of care, staff professionality and laerning opportunities in your facility during my short stint there as a student nurse. In addition to the above qualities my work experiences have included direct client care, passing medication and team participation.
I am interested in obtaining employment at your facility and being able to work with your staff again.
Should you wish to contact me, I am available weekdays after 4.00pm.

QUESTION 5.
The kind of person one is ,is an additional concern to the interviewer,Since first impression lasts long if not difficult to erase , I will try as much as possible to create a lasting good impression on my first day in that establihment. Knowing that there are cncerns on both sides will make me go to the HR dept. to ask certain questions to make thing simpler for both of us.
For example:
-Clothing- this should ordinarily be conservative but, if the facility has its own dress code I will abide by it.
-Mske-up- this should be kept to the minimum because this is not what attracts one to the employer but the confidence displayed at the interview.
-Accessories- this should be simple or non at all.
-Posture- walk tall and sit erect in the middle of the chair. Both feet should rest on the floor, and head should be upright.
-Manner- do not interrupt the interviewer.Pause to think, as needed, then answer without hesitating.
-Courtesy- when meeting the interviewer, smile and extend your hand for a firm handshake. After the handshake, say, Ms Savbrosky,my name is----. Similarly when the interview is over, stand up and look the person in the eyes and offer your hand for a firm handshake. Address him by surname Ms Savbrosky, thank you for the opprtunity to interview with you and based on what I have learnt here today , I know I can do the job.
-Habit- do not chew gum or smoke while in the waiting room or during the interview.
QUESTION 6.
Some of the sample questions to ask the interviewer for the nursing positions are:
--what type of pt will I work with?
--how do you do scheduling?
--will I be floated to other units?
--what type of charting system is used in the facility?
--how big is the facility, and how many beds are in the unit?
--how long does orientation last?
--what is the nurse to pt ratio?
--what type of uniform is worn?
--will overtime be available if I want it?
--will I be able to request workdays?

Detailed-focused: Individuals who are interested in every detail about a subject, they are perfectionisits and are not interested in swiftness but accuracy. These people speak slowly and deliberately to absorb all information, often asking for details.
Friendly-focused: Individuals who initially center their converstion on casual talk (i.e. weekend plans, family units or non-working activities). But, when small talk is complete their focus is shifted to either results-focused or detailed-focused style.
Party-focused: Individuals who love to laugh , tell jokes and have a good time, but then shift to results or detail-focused style. Once the entertainment time is over they like to get down to business.
2. Networking for references means putting forth your best effort in the clinical or school environment, in hopes for a positive feedback with letters of recommendation. This can be done by listening carefully when feedback is passed on to you and identifying those nurses whose work you admire and ask for their evaluation/suggestions about your work. Asking select nurses whether they would be willing to write a positive reference letter for you and following up with a brief courtesy letter. With all of these tools in place, this should make for an excellent reference.
3. Networking for a job means using other contacts such as: family or friends with nursing contacts, former healthcare employees, newspapers, nursing journals or browsing the internet to finding a job. Attending professional conferences and proceed to "work the room" by striking up conversations at vendor booths or requesting a person's business care are good means of networking successfully to obtain a better job position.

*Results-Focused > Individuals with a results-focused style prefer to get information quickly and act on it immediately. Signs of this style include "a tendency to talk fast, finish others' sentences, and act irriated when others don't get right to the point".
> Respond to these indiviuals by "making your points brief, describing what you have done and plan to do next. Speak rapidly and avoid getting side - tracked."
*Detail- Focused > detailed-focused individuals are interested in every detail about a subject, no matter how large or how small. They are perfectionists who would rather have a task performed correctly than quickly. Signs of this type include " speaking slowly and deliberately to absorb all information, often asking for additional details."
> In responding to these indiviuals in an employment situation, you will want to bring a portfolio of information that covers seminars, classes, volunteer work, and so on. " Carefully explain each element of what you have done to date and plan to do. Make sure that the individual is comfortable with evey aspect of your work".
Friendly- Focused > Frinedly- focused individuals expect to have an easy- going conversation initially. Signs of this style include " talking about themselves or conversations about your personal life along with discussing weekend plans, hobbies, and non-working activities." When the small talk is completed, they tend to shift to either a results- focused or a detail- focused style.
> To respond to these indiviuals, chat with them for 2 to 5 minutes about non- work- related activities . After chatting, you will " state you need to return to school/ work and then discuss the business at hand." Then watch for clues as to whether the person switches to the results -or-focused style.
* Party- Focused > " These people love to laugh, tell jokes, and have a good time before getting down to business." Once this is done they, like the friendly- focused person, will shift to the results- or detail- focused style.
> The best way to respond is to laugh along with them or, if you are good at it , tell a few jokes of your own. To make a good impression on people , it is important to
1. listen to what they have to say; and
2. if you disagree with someone with whom you want to maintain rapport, use " artful vagueness." Artful vagueness is responding to another's comments with- out implying that either of you is wrong. An example would be to respond to a statement with, You've got a point there"or You may be right."
2. Networking for referances means:
> Can lead to finding new jos, better pay, faster promotions and greater job satisfaction.
> Getting or asking your instructors for a letter of recommendation based on your performance in school and or clinical site if the jo your looking for permits it.
3. What networking for a job means and how one would accomplish this
> Getting information about a job openning , the position and the qualifications that is needed to get the job.
> Surfing the internet, looking through the news paper by asking family and friends with nursing contacts and by walking in a faucilty of choice.
4.Would be added later
5. You need to know your positive and weak points, Have a clear mind, Be open for change, know what you want to come out of the interview with, keep good eye contact, don't answer a question with a question, be prepared for the unexpected, arrive early not late, have all you cridentials, be well dressed, and understand what you want and what is being offered to you; don't settle for less than what you feel your worth.
6. What is the pay rate?
What is my scope of practice here?
What is the shift times?
How do your charting system work?
Where is the pharamcy?

When discussing your references during an interview, it is to your advantage to allude to what they say about you. If you do not ask what the person will say about you, you are risking the possibility that he or she will also discuss all your flaws.3. 1) There are four types of interpersonal styles, results focused, detail focus, friendly focus, and party focus.
a) Results focus individuals are those who prefer to get information quickly and act on it immediately. These individuals act irritated when others don’t get right to the point. They tender to talk fast and finish sentences for others. The best way to respond to this type of individual is, make your point brief and speak rapid.
b) Detail focus are interested in every detail about a subject, no matter how large or how small. They are more interested in perfect than quick. These individuals speak slowly and for additional information. You need to respond to individual in a detail form such as bring a portfolio of information that covers seminars, and classes.
c) Friendly focus individuals expect to have easygoing conversation initially. This type of individual tender to talk about themselves or about your personal life. They tend to discuss weekend plans. To respond to these individual you need to chat with them for 2 to 5 minutes about non work related activities. After that you need to state you need to return to work.
d) Party focus individuals love to laugh, tell jokes, and have a good time before getting down to business. Once this done , they like to shift to detail or result focus. The best way to respond to these individual is to laugh along with them, and even tell your own jokes. Listen to what they have to say. If you disagree with what they are saying just use artful vagueness such as you have got a point there.
2) Networking for reference is talking to your instructors or other influential people you know about using them for a reference for a job. Be sure to ask any his or her permission before any body name for a reference. School placement people are a source of information with them. Listen carefully when feedback is passes on to you. You often have to work with directly with the primary nurse or team leaders. Identify the nurses who work you admire and ask for their evaluation and suggestions. Before you complete your clinical rotation, ask select nurse nurses whether they would be willing to write a positive reference letter for you. If the answer is yes, write down their name and correctly, title, work address, and work place phone number. Ask the nurse what he/she will say about you, because if did not ask the nurse what he will say about you, you risking the possibility of the nurse discussing all your flaws. A brief courtesy letter about you need for a positive reference letter should be sent at the time you begin your job search, follow-up telephone calls to reference persons 4 to 5 days after sending the letter will remind them of their promise to you.
3) Networking for a job is using the contact have made or willing to make to help you find a job. When networking for a job use family and friend with nursing contact. Let them know that you are looking for a job. Follow with them every two weeks until you get the job you want. Contact the former healthcare employer if you are interested in nursing position. Use newspapers, nursing journals, the school alumni office, the yellow pages, the school carrier placement office, and internet.
Locally consider checking to see whether the facilities you wish to work for have websites of their own. This will provide you with an opportunity to learn about job openings and the facility is about. Attend professional conferences or training session and work the room, arrive early to obtain your name badge and to see if you recognize the names on the badges. Attend the conference alone; strike up conservation at the table, coffee or vendor boot. Identify the people who hire, by more professional appearance and avoidance of eye contact with others. Call perspective employer and ask are you hiring, and if the answer is no ask do you know any one who is hiring?

5) There are several interview techniques you might use when preparing for an interview, some are more beneficial than others, such as have your license at hand, CPR card, hepatitis B and tuberculosis skin test before you go to interview. Know that interview is stressful for both you and the employer. Know that there are concerns on both sides, your and the interview’s will help to be defensive. It will be helpful to understand the questions asked, so that you can answer in an honest and reassuring way. Know that part of your responsibility is to help the interviewer become comfortable with who you are and why you should be selected for the job.
6) Some questions you should practice before your first interview are as follows: Tell me about yourself? Have you ever done this type of work before, Why do you want to work here? Why did you leave your last job? Tell me about your last employer? What have you done to keep your clinical skills current? What kind of salary or wage do you expect? How do you compare your verbal skills with your writing skills? Why should we hire you instead of someone else? When are available for work? How is your health? Are there any parts of the job that you won’t be able to perform? What are your greatest strengths? What are your weaknesses? What are your long term goals? Have you ever been hired by an employer? Can you work under pressure? Will childcare be an issue?

5. When going on a face to face interview it’s important to be adequately prepared and bring all the pertinent documents you might need. You have to justify why you should be hired instead of the other candidate. Prepare for your interview by practicing responses to typical interview questions. Do this as a role-playing with another person in the role of the interviewer. This will make you appear confident when the actual interview occurs.
6. Some sample questions I would like to ask during my interview will include the type of patients I will be working with, how the scheduling is done, if they use computer charting or cardex. The length of time orientation and the ratio of time nurse to patient, availability of overtime and if I can request workdays. The weekend schedule will also be among the questions. Health insurance as well as retirement benefits.

Hello All
1. Interpersonal-Styles
There are 4 major interpersonal syles
a. Result-focused-this style prefers to get information quickly and act on it immediately. Signs of this style include; a tendency to talk fast, finish other’s sentences, and act irritated when others don’t get right to the point.
b. Detail-focused-individuals are interested in every detail about a subject, no matter how large or how small. Signs of this style include; one who would rather have a task performed correctly than quickly, speaking slowly and deliberately to absorb all information, often asking for additional details.
c. Friendly focused individuals expect to have an easy-going conversation initially. Signs of this style include talking about themselves or conversations about your personal life along with discussing weekend plans, hobbies, and n on-working activities. When the small talk is completed, they tend to shift to either result-focused or detailed focused.
d. Party-focused- these people love to laugh, tell jokes, and have a good time before getting down to business. Once this is done they shift to result-focused or detail-focused.
2. Networking for reference is a process done while still in school or close to graduation, in order to help find work. Networking for reference includes some sort of letter of recommendation written about your work ethics as a student to potentially get your career started in the work world. The way to accomplish this is to ask another person in your clinical site if they can vouch for your working habits by writing you a letter of recommendation to help you find work after graduation. When asking for a letter of recommendation you must ask them what type of things they will have to say about you and be sure to follow up with that person in 2 weeks.
3. Networking for a job is simply using the sources around you to find a job. This is done by asking family and friends for contact numbers and any references that they may have to help you find a job in your field. You should also ask former health care workers or employers if they have any position available or know of any other facilities that would benefit you in your job search. You should use newspapers, magazines, the internet and nursing journals as well.
